Beer blog

8 05 2008

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted. Sorry about that. My last couple posts have been fairly heavy (and heady) stuff, so I wanted to write about something a bit lighter - beer.

I was inspired tonight by beer. Not in that crazy, Vincent van Gogh way. I didn’t cut off my ear and give it to a prostitute. Nor did I paint “Starry Night.” I was simply inspired to log into WordPress because I feel like I need to talk about this beer.

I love dark beer. Light beer is for wimps. If you are not a wimp and you like a nice bitter stout, I’d recommend this: Black Majic Java Stout.

This beer has it all - a deep, rich, bitter coffee flavor, a smooth, creamy mouthfeel and a lovely, slightly bitter aftertaste. But it’s not your average dark stout. A lot of stouts are cold-weather beers. They’re heavy and they warm you inside. This one doesn’t do that. It’s an all-season stout, I think. It’s delicious, but it doesn’t stick to your ribs. It’s got a lot of body and flavor, but you could put back five or six and not feel bloated - not that I’m advocating putting back five or six of these, but it can be done.

This is one of the best beers I’ve had in some time. It goes with almost any food; I’ve had it with everything from roasted potatoes to grilled cheese sandwiches to Kraft macaroni and cheese. This is a great beer to drink as your first stout. It’s got all the flavor of heavier dark beers, but it’s got a different texture that won’t turn off fans of lighter beers.

Just try it. It’s a beautiful and delicious beer.
