Virtual insanity is what we’re living in

I think it’s time the government just told us that in order to get on a plane, we need to go through security naked. I think it’s the logical next step.

Come fall at some American airports – specifically O’Hare in Chicago, passengers will have to go through a machine that puts them through a virtual strip search. The machine sees through clothes and gives security screeners a look at all your cracks and crevices.

This is getting out of hand. It’s bad enough that we all have to take off our shoes and belts, empty everything out of our pockets, turn on our laptops and carry any liquid in three-ounce containers. And now security personnel are going to be able to have an all-access pass to the show going on under your clothes? No way.

The way I see it, terrorists are always going to find new places to hide explosive devices if they really want to blow something up. If you get machines that will see through clothes, they’ll simply put the explosives in an uncomfortable orifice. If you get a device to see into those uncomfortable orifices, they’ll find other, even more uncomfortable orifices to use. It’s a never-ending cycle.

So let’s just start going through airport security naked. It will save money because airports won’t need to buy special machines. And it will make it so nobody has to be singled out for additional screening — after all, when everyone is naked, there are no secrets left.
